The moving image - Multimedia, film, TV and video

CD-ROM
A dynamic CD-ROM created by art + power for use as art and training is available from art + power. The CD presents examples of our work in visual art, theatre, poetry, deaf arts, music and multimedia.
The CD explores the way art + power works as an advocate for arts based empowerment – Copies available from art + power.

Film, Video and Television.
Working closely with Picture This Moving Image and Redweather films art + power have produced a range of short films and videos many of which have been screened by HTV West. All the films show an innovative approach to filmmaking and bear testament to the power of art to create change.

True Lives – an Animation and Two Short Films – Picture This 1994. 15 mins
Poems on a theme of ‘who am I? Past, present and future’ were illustrated by the artists working with Picture This Moving Image. Two of the poems: ‘Brenda Mary Cook’ by Brenda Cook and ‘Stanley and Me’ by Mary Hearn were produced by Picture This as short films. Screenings include Video Postive (Liverpool) Start (Plymouth) NFT (London). Screened twice on HTV alongside arts documentary: ‘Limited Edition’ featuring the making of the film.

The Lying Doctors. – Redweather Productions 1998. 10 mins

‘The Lying Doctors is part of our lives we went through it all. People should see it, they’ll learn something’ ‘It tells about how we feel about doctors telling us we can’t do things.’ Devised and performed by The Portway Players.

This River Winding – Picture This Moving Image 2000.

An experimental animated film formed from original visual artwork, poetry, and live action combined using digital techniques. The film reflects the life journeys of a number of disabled artists from child to adult hood. This rich and varied animation explores the themes of kindness and spite, ignorance and understanding. Screenings include: Brief Encouters, Bristol 2000, Access Denied Conference, Sadlers Wells, London, 2000;

The Wrong Flowers, Directed by Nicola Williams, 7 minutes 33 seconds
Set in the 1940s the film is based on a poem by Brenda Cook, an artist with learning difficulties. The film explores Brenda’s early experiences and relationships. Brenda creates a fantasy world and refuses to allow her individuality to be dimmed. A collaboration between Picture This Moving Image and art + power, Bristol.

The Freedom Series – Redweather Productions for HTV West 2000
During 1999 we worked with many other artists and in many local schools exploring and sharing the idea of freedom. Five arts documentaries were produced through to show the work produced. ‘We are about coming together, making pictures of our lives and sending those pictures out to everyone to change people’s attitudes, to change people’s ways.

Freedom ‘A years Work’
Art on a theme of freedom expressed in poetry, song and deaf theatre. Over 100 artists performed at the Freedom Performance. This programme shows how the project came together in the words of the artists.

Artists from a range of Bristol schools exploring the theme of Freedom through poetry, song and deaf arts.
Freedom ‘The Freedom Performance’
The Freedom Performance at the Victoria Rooms in Bristol.
Freedom ‘This River Winding
